The mission of the Brooklyns Youth Council (BYC) is to represent youth in Brooklyn Center and Park by providing a voice in collaboration with the community and local government in order to positively raise awareness of problems facing youth.

The BYC is currently seeking new members. If you or a high schooler living in or attending school in Brooklyn Park or Brooklyn Center is interested in creating positive change in your community, please contact Kennedy for more information!

The BYC creates change in the community through project-based action. Join the youth-council to learn how you can be a part of this work!

The Brooklyns Youth Council meets once a week, in the evenings after school. These meetings typically take place in person, but a hybrid option is offered for accessibility.

Participants gain hands-on experience in public speaking, teamwork, facilitation, event planning, and advocacy.

Project-based Action

Each year, the Brooklyns Youth Council completes a service project that is youth-led and youth-centered. Using information from the Youth-to-Youth Survey, members choose an issue pertinent to youth in the Brooklyns community and take action to address it. These projects are not just one-time instances, but instead shift the culture, policies, and practices to create better ecosystems for youth to thrive. Here are some of the projects the Brooklyns Youth Council has previously engaged in:
